Share the love – visit your local library and help celebrate New Zealand Library Week on right now!
Held in New Zealand for over 35 year, Library week is a wonderful chance to promote the many benefits and opportunities libraries offer our communities.
This year’s theme, “Escape, Explore, Discover,” I think sums up perfectly what libraries are for me – a safe place to escape to where other worlds both fiction and non-fiction are just an arms’ reach away waiting for you to discover new and fascinating stories, facts and even worlds.
There have been some great activities already this week including “New Zealand’s biggest story time on Wednesday with libraries across the country simultaneously reading “Itiiti’s Gift” by Melanie Drewery and illustrated by Fifi Colston.
Today (Thursday) is Living Heritage Day with public and school libraries will teaming up for an online bilingual initiative that enables our young people to be storytellers in their own language by creating websites which preserve New Zealand history and culture in a digital form.
But really it’s Friday’s activities I am looking forward to. After all, what goes better with books than chocolate? Why, free chocolate of course!!!
Friday 14 August will see libraries celebrating Love Your Library Day with special romance themed displays, activities and chocolate give‐aways.
And there are competitions for all ages to take part in too.
Check out the website for more info or see you at your local library!
