The traditional red phone box in Westbury-sub-Mendip in Somerset has been turned into a functioning library, holding a collection of just 100 books.
The idea was the brainchild of a resident when the village lost their telephone box and mobile library in quick succession.
The library is open to all to use 24 hours a day and works on a book exchange principle: users simply stock it with a book they have read, swapping it for one they have not.
Parish councillor Bob Dolby said the library had "really taken off."
"The books are constantly changing. It is completely full at the moment with books. Anyone is free to come and take a book and leave one that you have already read.
The phone box was purchased by the village's parish council from British Telecom for the token amount of one pound. Other councils have done the same, turning their red phone booths into everything from art installations to a shower and even a public toilet.
