Popular Penguins' New Zealand titles to be released in March

New editions in the Popular Penguins series will see classic kiwi literature re-released for new audiences to enjoy.

Penguin has announced ten titles will be available from March 2010 and includes well known authors and Montana Award winners alike.

Highlights include The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera and Came A Hot Friday by Ronald Hugh Morrison, both of which spawned film adaptations, and Plumb by Maurice Gee.

The Popular Penguins were developed as part of celebrations of the publisher's history and as the series' title suggests, have proven very popular. Penguins says they appeal to a wide audience - readers who love the books and want to collect the whole series, readers who have ‘always meant to read that book’, and brand-new readers who are prepared to try out something new as the price is so affordable.

Penguin anticipates the launch of the New Zealand titles into Popular Penguins will enable a whole new audience to discover some of the treasures of kiwi writing.

I'm ashamed to say that I've only read one title from this list (The Whale Rider). It's great to see that Penguin are publishing this series of NZ titles.
