A great quote that jumped out at me..

"And I set it in rural New Zealand, both because that's what I know, and because I get so tired of chick-lit that's set in Tuscany or Provence."

Here here Danielle Hawkins!

Her debut novel, Dinner at Rose's featured today on the New Zealand Herald's Fiction Addiction column, looks like a delightful read and I look forward to enjoying a Kiwi setting for a change. Don't get me wrong, I understand why some authors choose to write with more exotic settings - chiefly greater appeal to the international market - but it's lovely to read stories set in our own backyard that we  all can relate to.  And I think as a nation we're finally getting over that Kiwi cultural cringe thing we've had going, first with our movies (how much did we love Boy?!) and now slowly (but picking up speed) when it comes to books.

On a separate note, doesn't her novel have gorgeous cover art?
