July 24 - Montana Poetry Day

New Zealand Poetry Day is now less than a week away! Mark your diaries and start planning attendance to your nearest Poetry Day event or maybe even hold your own. Just make sure you get out there and celebrate odes, haiku, limericks, sonnets, beat or enjambment - poetry in all its varied forms that move and inspire us.

It's a veritable feast of verse that takes the nation by storm, and there's sure to be something going on near you. Poetry marathons, poetry puddings, resurrection nights and poetry slams; words come alive everywhere on Montana Poetry Day.

Established in 1998, Montana Poetry Day has since become one of the most anticipated events on the arts calendar.

Montana Poetry Day national coordinator, poet Siobhan Harvey says this year’s line-up is a wonderful spread of words, writers and innovative events. "This year, there are more than 100 poets venturing out for readings, open mic’ sessions and poetry slams. Words will be spilling onto pavements, out of offices and into classrooms, cafes and theatres".

"It’s a great way to forget about your day-to-day worries and transport yourself somewhere else with words. Don’t miss out, this is soul food – and it’s going to be a lot of fun."

And come back on July 24, when wellreadkitty might be brave enough to share a piece of her own poetry along with her favourite NZ poem.
