Lottie the Otter, a new female character, is set to join Pooh and friends in the 100 Acre Wood.
The first new authorised Winnie the Pooh book in 80 years, "Return to the 100 Acre Wood," will be released next week. Written by David Benedictus and illustrated by Mark Burgess, it has been approved by the Pooh Trustees.
Lottie the Otter is described as “a smart and elegant character” who is “always dressed in pearls,” and who “has her own ideas about how things should be done and believes that everyone should follow the correct etiquette.”
In the course of “Return to the Hundred Acre Wood,” the book's publisher said, Lottie takes a swim in Christopher Robin’s bath, helps to set up a school for the denizens of the Hundred Acre Wood, and turns out to be great at cricket.

How do you feel about the introduction of a new character to one of the world's most beloved childhood favourites?
Who is your favourite Winnie the Pooh character and why?
I'm a Tigger girl myself. He's impossible not to love.

My favourite character is a cage-fight between Eeyore and Piglet. Eeyore because he's a donkey (oooh donkey!) and deeply depressed (there's something very comforting and also funny about a depressed character when you're a kid), and Piglet because he's a piglet - pinky cuteness!
Other than that though I don't really have a deep emotional attachment to Winnie the Pooh and the idea of a new character doesn't throw me at all.
