Kia Kaha Christchurch

I haven't read a single book this week. Rather, I have been glued to the internet and telly, watching the unimaginable: our beautiful garden city Christchurch once again rocked by an earthquake, this one deadly.

If you ever want to feel small and ineffectual, sit safe and well-fed in your cosy home while thousands of others in your country are left without adequate shelter, water, toilet facilities, food and transport while not knowing if their loved ones have survived the innumerable building collapses.

Like thousands of other New Zealanders, I am so proud to call myself Kiwi, especially after the amazing way our country has banded together to offer help and love to our Cantab whanau. If you can, please donate to The New Zealand Red Cross. No amount is too small. There are so many people affected and the relief effort will go on for a long time to come.

And please, spare a thought for the animals. Last year in September Paw Justice were able to send down six tonnes of pet food to shelters and families in need, raised by donations. Now they need your help again. Please text FOOD to 4662 (NZ only) to make a $3 donation.
